Coil Coating
First Aluminium Nigeria Plc operates 2 high speed coil coating lines, with a capacity of 20,000 tons per year.

The sheet is degreased using the alkaline solution in the pre-treatment section of the coating line. It helps in etching and degreasing to remove the oily residue from surface for better and long lasting paint adhesion. The initial coat is the primer, its dry thickness usually in the range of 3 to 5 microns, to provide adhesion to the pre-treated metal for better paint adhesion and added corrosion resistance. Aluminium sheet will be roll–coated with a universally accepted S wrap coater for reverse coating application to provide uniform backing coat and topcoat The final coat, or topcoat, is usually in the range of 15 to 25 microns and it provides the colour and appearance to the final coated product along with the other key properties required to meet the product’s performance specification. The bottom coat is transparent backing lacquer, usually in the range of 5 to 7 microns.

The painted strip is then baked / oven dried either in Gas fired oven or the state of the art IR oven. This is a critical process with close monitoring of strip temperature and speed of the strip. This is then followed by cooling the strip by initial Air quenching and then water quenching and coiling the strip.
